This is an example of a part and drawing request similar to those delivered to support a prototype surgical robotic platform that will soon be a competitor to the DaVinci system. It began with a mechanical need for an injection molded part that secures a bearing in place and has a hole a threaded rod can be inserted into. Initial geometry was roughed in, then DFM modifications were made to optimize the part for molding. Overhang, draft, and wall thickness analysis were performed and refinements made based on those findings. A drawing was roughed out and tolerance stack-up analysis was performed to set the tolerances.
